Dedicated to the memory of Jim and the legacy he has left behind.
Following his death, his family, friends and coworkers joined together to create a memorial fund in his name. The Fund operates as a 501(c)(3) organization and awards three different scholarships annually in Jim’s memory - one to a student in their senior year who is also on the boy’s lacrosse team (one of the sports Jim both loved and excelled at) at the high school Jim attended (Conard High School - West Hartford, CT) and one to a senior student at Parish Hill High School (a school located near where Jim lived and was killed). The third scholarship is awarded to a student studying Wildlife & Natural Resources at Jim's alma mater, the University of Connecticut. All three scholarships are awarded to recipients who exemplify the qualities and values that Jim embodied - extremely hardworking, honest, and humble. The Fund also makes donations to members of law enforcement and/or their families and the community in times of need.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this website and learn about Jim. For those of you who never met him, we're sorry you didn't have the opportunity. He truly was a great person. For those of you who knew Jim, we hope this website gives you comfort in knowing that Jim's memory is not forgotten, his legacy will never be forgotten and he lives on with us each day we're here on Earth.
The slogan of the Memorial Fund is “Remember 648”. It is a simple but deep phrase. Jim’s badge number was 648.
The slogan doesn’t mean “Remember Jim” - that’s not needed because he was truly unforgettable. It means more than that. It isn’t intended to be a reminder to remember Jim, it’s a reminder to remember how he lived and the example he set in life. It’s more than “Remember 648” - it’s “Remember, be a good person”.
In Jim's memory, we ask you to appreciate the world around you. Help someone less fortunate and in need. Make a stranger smile. Hug a loved one. Crack a joke. Laugh. Get some exercise. Go for a walk in the woods or a swim in the ocean. Take in a sunset. Seek to be a light in this world and enjoy all the beauty that it has to offer.
We all only get so much time on this planet. Don't take it for granted. Make the most of it.
If you feel inclined, we invite you to make a donation to Jim's Memorial Fund. We are a small Fund but strive to make big impacts, and every cent of every donation goes towards continuing Jim's legacy and helping those following in his footsteps to achieve their goals and make this world a better place. Any amount you can offer, no matter how great or small, is always significant and is always deeply, deeply appreciated.
Thank you.
